Molodezhnoe asbestos deposit

Molodezhnoe asbestos deposit is located 20 km from the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) route, 22 km south-east of Taksimo village, which are connected by a highway.

The deposit was discovered in 1957 during geological mapping in scale 1: 200 000 by ISU Party under the leadership of A.A. Malyshev. The study took place in several stages: 1961 – prospecting and evaluation works; 1962-1963 - preliminary exploration; 1964-1967 - detailed exploration; 1968-1979 - reserve; from 1980 - the state reserve.

Asbestos field of Molodezhnoe deposit is confined to the central part of the massif of the same name. The length of the industrial part of the field at various levels is ranged from 409 to 768 m, width - from 278 to 489 m, depth of the asbestos from 367 to 638 meters from surface. The maximum dimensions of the field are set on the level of 1150 meters.

Molodezhnoe deposit on the morphology and structure refers to deposits of chrysotile-asbestos Bazhenov subtype, but has some features that lead to his confinedness to a small ultrabasite massif with exceptionally high saturation of asbestos, particularly long-fiber.

Form of asbestos field - wrong ellipsoid. The zonation, typical of all known commercial deposits of chrysotile-asbestos Bazhenov subtype, at the Molodezhnoe deposit is expressed quite clearly. Here, from the center to periphery is changed a number of zones with different character of the asbestos: core – zone of edged simple lodes – zone of coarse grid – zone of fine grid – zone of oriented and netted embossments (sometimes mixed character) - peripheral zone of fine grid. From the periphery the asbestos field is edged with the schistose serpentinites roughly and intensively.

The northwestern part of the deposit is located on a steep slope of the valley of Dyadin feeder, southeastern part of the deposit, lying at the bottom of the valley, is covered by quaternary sediments ranging from 5 to 40 m. The nature of the relief in the deposit has predetermined selection of combined method his prospection.

Asbestos reserves of АВС1 categories - 13198.0 thousand tons, С2 -... 1027.1 tons. The deposit is located on the 3rd place in the Russian Federation (11.4% of reserves), off-balance reserves - 2584.4 thousand tons (Table 1).

At the same time by the high content of asbestos fiber it is superior to all known deposits of the country, and by the content of the most valuable textile varieties of asbestos is unique on a global scale. Ores contain about 1% of textile varieties of asbestos; in the operated deposits in Russia - 0.03%. On the deposit was carried out the construction of mining and processing complex, currently suspended.

According to the feasibility report of the construction of exploration and operational mine was planned to conduct in the two periods. In the first period at the same time with the implementation of construction to spending lump production of asbestos AK, I, and II varieties in the amount of 1500-2000 tons per year. Period is designed for 3-4 years. In the second period of 3-4 years the productivity of the mine should reach 250 thousand tons in the original ore with a yield of 5.0-6.0 thousand of commercial asbestos AK-II grade and III grade of 1,5-2,0 thousand. t. per year.

As noted in feasibility report, established in 1970 deficit in the textile varieties and "unique content of these varieties in the Molodezhnoe deposit, one can determine its value from other deposits of the Soviet Union as one of the main sources of textile asbestos". Technical and economic calculations in the draft of conditions (1964), indicated an extremely high economic efficiency of the future of mining and processing complex based on the Molodezhnoe deposit.

In addition to the high profitability of operation, the development of the Molodezhnoe deposit should have not only fully satisfied the domestic demands of country in asbestos (especially in textile varieties) and created in the east districts of the country a powerful own base for the production of asbestos, eliminating long-distance transportation of building varieties from the Urals to the east, but also obtained significant resources to export (asbestos textile varieties have a very high monetary value and efficiency).

1964-1966 by Youth party were explored three deposits of construction materials (clay, sand and gravel mix dolomite), the reserves of which were to ensure the construction of mining and processing complex on the basis of the Molodezhnoe chrysotile-asbestos deposit.

In 1977 All-Union ATI made textile testing varieties of asbestos, developed from selected ore, as a result was found, that the worked-out yarn by strength corresponds to the yarn of Bazhenovskiy deposit, the largest deposit in Russia.

In 2001 Central Research Institute (Kazan) compiled a feasibility study the development of the Molodezhnoe deposit (Minutes BurTKZ №4 of 02.02.2001), where proved the substantiation of the deposit of industrial value in the new economic conditions and developed a feasibility study for the feasibility of its development.                

Mining conditions exploitation of the deposit allow to develop it by open mining. As a result of studies conducted by the All-Union Institute projectasbest, choosen the best option gravity concentration circuit, comprising in addition to the basic operations of rewash, fuzz in the fan, a two-fold classification of asbestos dust remover, re-fuzz in the fan and classification in the din of CPG.
